The Louisiana 2008 Medique Award was presented to Patricia (Patsy) Ashton, RN
Patsy is an occupational nurse who has dedicated her work life for the past 17 years to the United States Department of Agriculture at the National Finance Center in New Orleans, LA. Here she cares for 1200 Federal Employees who are responsible for payroll operations for this Federal Department. In August, 2005, Patsy was an integral part of the relocation of the agency and the employees so that they could continue with the payroll operations in Grand Prairie, TX. All of this happened within 24 hours of the Katrina landfall and payroll production continued without missing a beat.
During these early times, Patsy was not deployed with the agency and her employees but stayed in the New Orleans area to get her Health Services Unit up and running on the hurricane damaged site. Although Patsy and her family were victims of the damage and devastation of Katrina, rather than care for herself, she spent a lot of time assisting employees with medical and emotional needs and grief counseling. Patsy became a cheerleader and a motivational and spiritual counselor encouraging others despite her own personal loss of 2 homes and 3 cars in the storm. Shortly after the storm, Pasty and her husband also experienced the loss of their 24 year old son.
Pasty Ashton was recognized with the 2008 Medique Leadership award because of her enormous caring and giving spirit and because she can get things done! The AOHN chapter of Louisiana and Medique were proud to present Patsy with the 2008 Medique Leadership award because she is such an asset and inspiration to the Occupational Health Nurse industry. She has been involved with the local, state and national chapters of AAOHN for almost 20 years.

Jo Cruz Receives the Medique Leadership Award
Hat's off to Josephine Cruz, RN of the Kachina Chapter of the American Association of Occupational Health Nurses on receiving the 2008 Medique Leadership Award. The award was presented at the Kachina Meeting on Monay, June 2, 2008. Jo was honored for her commitment and contributions to Occupational Health Nursing.
Jo received a beautiful engraved plaque and a $50 Medibucks Certificate. The Kachina Chapter received a $300 check from Medique to be used for education.
Jo is President of Arizona Kachina Association of Occupational Health Nurses and is Employee Health Manager at Northwest Medical Center.
